2019 NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

A brief overview over some of the shows during 2019's New York Fashion Week.

THE ROW

The Row appeals to women in a post Phoebe Philo Celine.  The pieces are subtle yet luxurious, and consistent with the brand's image of consistently managing to embody the modern woman.  The pieces are loosely fitted, somewhat androgynous, yet still possess unique cuts and draping.

SIES MARJAN

This season, Sies Marjan was relatively simple.  Although he can be recognized for his method of twisting clothes and draping them, he didn't really utilize those techniques as much this season.  The clothes were, however, loosely fitted and minimal- consistent with Marjan's brand image.

BRANDON MAXWELL
Brandon Maxwell's show primarily consisted of loose clothing with cinched in waists and some military influences.  The looks, overall, were flattering and classic.

PROENZA SCHOULER

This season, Proenza Schouler displayed a more simplistic collection of clothes.  Hernandes and McCollough utilized a more muted palate with less deconstructed clothes- both of which comprised aspects of the brand's image.  However, Hernandez relates this change to realizing that women want clothes that are both fashionable and real.  He claims that he and McCollough have seen designers make clothing that is "sophisticated" but doesn't encapsulate what the women or buyer essentially wants.

TELFAR
Clemens' Telfar didn't involve a runway.  Instead, models would walk a few steps and then crowd surf.  This eventually transitioned into a show that utilized elements such as rap, R&B, and blues.  The show was done in partnership with Black Lives Matter.  Thus, displaying Telfar's unique, reimagined designs in a way that aimed to reflect the ideals of the Black Lives Matter movement.
